Luxury Sprinter Van vs. Class B RV: What's the Difference?

Published on Sep 28, 2026 by Arbogast Luxury Sprinter Vans

A Class B RV is built for living aboard. A luxury touring van is built for traveling together in first-class comfort. If your trips are about the people riding with you, a luxury Sprinter van is usually the better fit.

Both vehicles can start life as a van, and both can take you a long way in comfort. The difference is what the cabin is designed to do. Even a luxury Class B RV is laid out around a bed, a kitchen, and a bathroom, while a luxury Sprinter van is laid out around its passengers. Here's how the Sprinter van vs. RV decision really works, and how to choose the one that fits the way you travel.

At a Glance

  • A Class B RV gives up seating for a kitchen, bathroom, and bed so you can live aboard for days at a time.
  • A luxury touring van puts the space into first-class seating, with our Touring Series floor plans carrying 9, 10, or 11 passengers.
  • Want a bathroom and galley without giving up luxury seating? Our Cross Country Series offers both.

What Is a Class B RV?

A Class B RV, often called a camper van, is a motorhome built inside a van body. It's the smallest motorized RV class, and many are built on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, which is why searches for a Mercedes Class B RV are so common.

Because a Class B is designed for living aboard, its cabin is packed with equipment for daily life. Most include a bed, a kitchen with a sink and cooktop, a compact wet bathroom, and fresh and waste water tanks. That's ideal for multi-night trips between campgrounds. It also means most of the van is taken up by living space, and only a few seats are left for passengers.

Higher-end models, often marketed as luxury Class B RVs, add upgraded finishes, larger battery and solar systems, and more refined cabinetry. The layout is still built around living aboard, so even a luxury Class B RV seats a small number of people.

Class B vs. Class C RV

A Class C RV is the next size up. It's built on a cutaway van or truck chassis with a larger, boxier living area behind the cab, and it's easy to spot by the sleeping area that extends over the cab. A Class C usually offers more living space and beds than a Class B, but it's bigger to drive, park, and store. Both classes share the same purpose: they're homes on wheels, designed for camping rather than for carrying passengers in comfort.

What Is a Luxury Touring Van?

A luxury touring van starts with the same idea of turning a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter into something special, but it points the whole cabin at the passengers. Instead of full living quarters, you get room to sit back, stretch out, and enjoy the trip together.

Our Touring Series is built around exactly that. Our Touring floor plans come in 9-, 10-, and 11-passenger layouts with premium captain's chairs, an LED TV on the cab partition, and an entertainment console. The 9- and 11-passenger plans finish the cabin with a full-width rear sofa that folds out into a bed. The 10-passenger lounge plan adds writing tables, power footrests, and two opposing rear sofas.

A Class B RV is a place to stay. A luxury touring van is a better way to get there, together.

Why Many Travelers Choose a Luxury Sprinter Van Over a Luxury Class B RV

For a lot of buyers, the honest question isn't where they'll sleep. It's who's coming along and how often they'll use the van. That's where a luxury Sprinter van shines.

It carries the whole group

A Class B RV works best for two people. A luxury touring van brings the kids, the grandparents, the team, or a few friends, and gives each of them a comfortable seat. Our luxury Sprinter family guide covers how to match a floor plan to your crew.

It earns its place every week

An RV often spends much of the year parked. A touring van handles the airport run on Monday, a client dinner on Thursday, and a weekend tournament on Saturday. You enjoy the luxury far more often than a once-a-year vacation.

The cabin is built around passengers

A Class B RV carries a full set of living systems, from the cooktop to the shower plumbing. Our Touring vans give that space to passengers, and our Cross Country vans keep it to a private half-bath with a toilet and sink, plus a galley with a mini-fridge and microwave. Either way, the cabin centers on what passengers actually feel: plush seating, legroom, entertainment, and a calm, finished interior.

Want Overnight Comfort Too? Meet Cross Country

Some travelers want the best of both: luxury passenger seating plus a few of the conveniences that draw people to an RV. Our Cross Country Series is built for them. Our Cross Country floor plans include an enclosed rear lavatory, a galley with a refrigerator and microwave, and two sofas that fold out into beds, with 8- or 10-passenger seating.

It's still a passenger-first luxury van, not a camper, so it keeps the comfort and versatility of a touring van while making long travel days easier. See whether an onboard bathroom is worth it for your trips, or read our guide on sleeping in a luxury Sprinter van.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Class B RV?

A Class B RV, often called a camper van, is a motorhome built inside a van body. It's designed to be lived in for days at a time, so the cabin typically includes a bed, a kitchen, a compact bathroom, and fresh and waste water tanks.

What's the difference between a luxury touring van and a Class B RV?

A luxury touring van is built to carry passengers in comfort, with premium captain's chairs, entertainment, and room for a group. A Class B RV is built for living aboard, with a kitchen, bathroom, and bed that take up much of the cabin and leave fewer seats.

How many passengers does a luxury touring van carry?

Our Touring Series floor plans include 9-, 10-, and 11-passenger layouts. Most Class B RVs seat far fewer people, because the living space takes up much of the cabin.

Can you sleep in a luxury touring van?

Some of our Touring floor plans include a rear sofa that folds out into a bed, which works well for an occasional rest stop or overnight. If you want a bathroom and galley as well, look at our Cross Country Series.

Can I buy a luxury touring van from Dave Arbogast if I don't live in Ohio?

Yes. Many of our clients never visit the showroom. We provide personal video walkarounds, help with financing, trade-ins, and paperwork, and offer nationwide delivery to your home or office.

Is a luxury Class B RV the same as a luxury Sprinter van?

No. Many luxury Class B RVs are built on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, but their cabins are designed for living aboard, with a bed, kitchen, and bathroom. A luxury Sprinter van like our Touring Series puts that space into premium passenger seating, with floor plans for 9, 10, or 11 passengers.

Sprinter van vs. RV: which is better for family travel?

For most families who travel together and stay in hotels or with relatives, a luxury Sprinter van is the better fit, because everyone gets a comfortable seat and the van is easy to use every week. An RV makes more sense when you plan to camp for several nights in a row.

What's the difference between a Class B and a Class C RV?

A Class B RV is built inside a van body, while a Class C RV is built on a cutaway chassis with a larger living area and a sleeping space over the cab. A Class C offers more room to live in but is bigger to drive and park. Both are designed for camping rather than for carrying passengers.
